🇺🇸 The ZIP+4 system was introduced by the USPS (United States Postal Service) in 1983.
The objective is to narrow down a location within a delivery zip code area, such as a specific street, building, floor, or apartment suite.
Let's break it down:
◾ Original 5 digits: Identify the region, sectional center facility (SCF), and post office or delivery area.◽ Delivery sector (6th-7th):s A smaller geographic entity within a delivery area—a city block, street cluster, or a substantial structure.
◾ Delivery segment (8th-9t): Such as one side of the street, a specific floor in a building, or a distinct apartment.
