Did you know there are three ownerless territories in the world?
These “Terra nullius” or “nobody’s land” can be acquired by occupation (since they belong to no state).
🧊Marie Byrd Land (Antarctica): The largest unclaimed territory on earth. Only the USA and the Soviet Union reserved the right to claim it in the Antarctic Treaty of 1959.
☀️Bir Tawil: Created by a discrepancy when Egypt and Sudan drew the border between their countries in 1902. Each country asserts that the other one owns this territory.
🗾 Gornja Siga and other pockets: This territory is not claimed by either Croatia or Serbia. Croatia states the pockets are Serbian, while Serbia makes no claim on the land.
